Spherical Bearing

Details of Spherical Bearing

Main Principle
Spherical Bearings stand out for being able to transfer vertical forces and rotations from the superstructure to the substructure. The loads and movements are transferred via a spherical and a concave bearing part.
Field of Application
CLIMA spherical Bearings are especially suited for bridges with big torsions and bridges located in very cold areas (temperatures lower than -30°C)

The spherical bearing transfers force reliably and rotates smoothly. It not only has great bearing capacity, large displacement, etc. as the pan rubber bearing, but it is more suitable for bearings of large turning angles. Compared with the pan bearing, it has the following advantages

Spherical Steel Bearings
1. Characteristics of Spherical Steel Bearings
The spherical bearing transfers force reliably and rotates smoothly. It not only has great bearing capacity, large displacement, etc. as the pan rubber bearing, but it is more suitable for bearings of large turning angles. Compared with the pan bearing, it has the following advantages:
  1) The bearing transfers force through the spherical surface, so no contraction of force will occur, and the reacting force on concrete is relatively even.
  2) The bearing rotates through the sliding of the spherical PTFE plate, with less turning moment, which is only related to the radius of the spherical face and the friction coefficient of the PTFE plate, not subject to the turning angle of the bearing, so it is especially suitable for large turning angles. The design turning angle may be 0.05rad or more.
  3) The turning of the bearing is consistent in all directions so it is suitable for wide and curve bridges.
  4) No rubber is used in the bearing so there is no problem of rubber aging affecting the bearing rotation, and it is especially suitable for cold areas.

2. Technical Indices of Spherical Steel Bearings
  1) The reacting force (vertical bearing capacity) is of 16 grades: 1000, 1500, 2000, 2500, 3000, 4000, 5000, 6000, 7000, 8000, 9000, 10000, 12500, 15000, 17500, 20000kN.
  2) Design turning angle: 0.01,0.015 and 0.02rad.
  3) Design displacement:
    Along the brdge:1000~2500kN, C=±50㎜;±100㎜ 3000~10000Kn, C=±50㎜; ±100;±150㎜
Across the bridge: DX free sliding bearings are used, e=±20㎜.
The design displacement may be varied according to the requirement of works.
  4) When the PTFE plate is lubricated with silicon grease, and under the stress of 30Mpa or so, the design friction coefficient is as follows:
    normal temperature(-25℃~+60℃):0.03
    low temperature(-40℃~+40℃):0.05
  5) Horizontal bearing capacity:
For sliding guided bearings (ZX), the capacity across the bridge is 10% of the reacting force of the bearing; for fixed bearing (GD), the capacity is also 10%.
